Ambassador: Turkey ready to cancel visa regime for Ukrainians

Ambassador: Turkey ready to cancel visa regime for Ukrainians

Yesterday at 18:18 | Interfax-Ukraine
Turkey is ready to receive Ukrainian citizens without any visas if Ukraine agrees to take the same step, Turkish Ambassador to Ukraine Ahmet Bulent Meric has said in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Weekly Mirror) newspaper.

"The current visa regime is not convenient for either side. We sincerely believe that the application of visas for our citizens does not correspond to the spirit of friendship between us. The Turkish side is ready to immediately eliminate visas if the Ukrainian government agrees to take the same step," he said.

He also said that the reception of Turkish visas by Ukrainians who want to travel to Turkey had currently been simplified as much as possible.

"Ukrainian citizens who want to travel to Turkey for tourist reasons should not wait near Turkish diplomatic or consular institutions in Ukraine. They have a chance of receiving visas on the Turkish border upon their arrival [in Turkey]. Moreover, Ukrainian citizens pay less than Turkish citizens who want to get Ukrainian visas," the ambassador said.

He also said that it is more difficult and more expensive for Turks to get Ukrainian visas.
